Happy Birthday America!

american flag 2In honor of this special day, we at Destination Meals® thought it would be appropriate to provide a brief history lesson and then of course let everyone know what is going on here in Ft. Lauderdale in an effort to celebrate.

America was officially born on July 4, 1776 with the passage of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress when the 13 American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, declared themselves as independent states, and no longer a part of the British Empire. Perhaps one of the most important and historic statements in the Declaration of Independence is: “ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

So, in pursuit of happiness this holiday weekend we suggest you head on over to Fort Lauderdale Beach   from 12:30pm to 9:30pm for The 4th of July Spectacular that will feature a patriotic extravaganza with a kids zone, live music featuring Keep the Faith, who will perform their classic “Bon Jovi Tribute Experience”, and old-fashioned hotdog and pie eating contests. Of course, at sun down, there will be the traditional pyrotechnic firework display! The fireworks show will be set to music and simulcast on Lite 101.5 FM – so this will be a one-of-a-kind 4th of July spectacular that we will be able to see and hear.

If you are interested in an earlier start to your day and celebrating, why not head over to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea where they are having their annual Fourth of July Parade in Town at 10am. There will be live music, a dunk tank, a waterslide, and if you are still out when the sun goes down they are also having a their own fireworks show at 9pm – right off the beach north of El Prado Park. Between the parade and the fireworks grab a bite at 101 Ocean or the Village Pump both are great eating and drinking options in the middle of all the fun – and if you are visiting from out of town, be sure to purchase your Destination Meals® vouchers as both 101 Ocean and the Village Pump participate in the Destination Meals® program.
